My last post was a rant about Pastors who think they can go it alone. But here is a follow-up for the rest of us.
The reason that you are enjoying all of the experience that the church is offering is because of the (literal) contributions from all of the people. You would fuss if there were no air conditioning or heat. You would fuss if you could not hear because of lousy sound. You would fuss if the coffee was missing. You would fuss if there were no facilities for your children. You would fuss if the building was not clean and attractive.
I have heard it said far too often that preachers are in it for the money, and all they ever do is ask for money. Here is a truth you do not want to hear. All of the things that you enjoyed in our little tour of the street to the service is because people have contributed to the church. All of that sound and lighting takes money. The construction of the building and parking lot takes money. The printing for worship guides and literature for the children takes money. That electricity and natural gas takes money. That chair you sat in cost money. And the only source that the church uses to provide all of these things is the offering plate (or bucket) that is passed before you.
As you put your check in the offering, think about all of the blessing you are receiving because of that contribution / tithe. Also think about all the blessing you are providing as you reach beyond the walls to the community around you.
So quit grousing about the preacher always asking money. Truth be known, he gets far, far less of a cut than Philip Philips!
